Railpen’s new office represents the culmination of a clear client vision and a deeply collaborative approach between consultant and contractor teams. Working to an exceptionally fast programme and with a client who demanded the highest standards, MCM took ownership of the brief and established clear design principles from the outset.

The early concept drew inspiration from the beauty of the railway, celebrating its materials, motion and landscape. Raw steel and glass echo the architecture of stations, while subtle textures and patterns reference seat upholstery. Generous planting and natural materials bring a sense of biophilia to the workspace, evoking the greenery seen from a train window and creating a calmer, more human experience. Soft gradients throughout the space capture the blur of movement itself, weaving together a cohesive and layered narrative.

Appointing a main contractor after Stage 2 demanded rapid decision-making and close collaboration to achieve full design sign-off.

The result is a warm, light-filled workspace that provides Railpen employees with all the amenities they need, from focused work settings and collaborative zones to flexible event spaces for social and training use.

Set across two floors and connected by a delicate feature staircase, the experience for both clients and employees is one of hospitality, comfort and quiet confidence.

As a space designed to foster both trust and connection, Railpen’s new workplace delivers on every level. It is a purposeful environment that enables people and performance to thrive.
